Call for Nominations for the 2020-2021 Board of Directors

Now is a great time to consider increasing your involvement with SMPS! Demonstrate your AEC leadership and grow your experience by nominating yourself for the SMPS Ontario Board of Directors. Our chapter Nominations and Elections Committee is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill three positions:

  •          2020-21 President-Elect (nominated from the current Board only)
  •          2020-22 Director of Communications
  •          2020-22 Director of Education and Certification
The first step is the call for nominations. Here's how it works:
  • Between March 1 and April 15 at 5:00 pm, the call for nominations is open for the positions noted herein.
  • You may nominate yourself or anyone else who is a member of SMPS. You must be a member of SMPS to nominate, vote and/or to sit on the board.
  • Please send nominations to: [email protected]
  • Should multiple candidates be received for open positions, elections will take place via e-mail ballot from May 1 to May 15. Further information on this process will follow in April, after nominations have closed.
  • When nominating, please include: a short paragraph indicating which position the nomination is for, and a few paragraphs on why you are interested in the position and what qualifies you for that position.
  • If you would like to nominate someone other than yourself, please include the above information on why you feel they would be a good candidate. We will follow up regarding their interest and further information on the nominee, as necessary.

General Information

Regular meetings of the Board occur once a month. Board members are required to attend monthly board meetings and monthly SMPS events.

Other duties require a time commitment of roughly 4-6 hours a month to carry out tasks associated with the respective role.  

Open Positions

President-Elect (filled from the current Board)

In the absence of the President the President-Elect shall preside at all meetings of the Chapter or the Board of Directors and shall succeed the President in the event it is necessary for him/her to vacate the office. He/She shall also perform such other duties from time to time as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the Board of Directors. The President Elect position is a one-year term, with novation to positions as President and Immediate Past President, each for a one-year term.

Director of Communications

The Director of Communications is responsible for a) event and member related communications; b) updating and maintaining the SMPS Ontario website; c) managing all SMPS Ontario social media; d) other activities and duties associated with the communication of the chapter, as from time to time may be assigned to him/her by the President or by the Board of Directors. This is a two-year term.

Director of Education and Certification

The Director of Education and Certification is responsible for planning and organizing the educational and programming events of the chapter. The Director of Education and Certification attends all monthly board meetings and programming events, drafts a budget and conceptual plan of programming initiatives for the upcoming year, and prepares an annual educational report for SMPS Headquarters. The Director of Education and Certification works with the board to secure event locations, speakers, food, handouts, audio/visual, and event communications to ensure its success.  This is a two-year term.

Election and Term

The Director of Communications and Director of Education and Certification shall each be elected for a two-year term. No more than two consecutive terms shall be held for these Board positions by the same individual.
